Meira Kumar Opposition’s Presidential Candidate
The 2017 presidential elections will not be just a contest between two contestants, it will be Dalit versus Dalit. Various other opposition parties, which were almost sidelined by the NDA-led BJP Government as it announced Ram Nath Kovind as their presidential candidate. And just merely they were informed about Kovind’s selection. Hence the 17 opposition parties now have united and come up with the Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar as their joint candidate against ruling NDA’s presidential nominee Ram Nath Kovind.
While these developments were happening, in U.P the arch-rival SP and BSP supported the opposition party and did not go along with JD(U) way which is with Kovind. And even RJD President Lalu Prasad Yadav went to an extent saying Nitish Kumar has done a historic blunder by supporting Ram Nath Kovind and if possible, he will meet Nitish Kumar very soon and urge him to review his decision. As usual, the kind of politician Lalu Prasad Yadav is he showed it by calling Meira Kumar “Bihar ki Beti” (daughter of Bihar) in his unusual style.
And in a contrast development, even BSP chief Mayawati who earlier had asked Congress for supporting Kovind if any other Dalit candidate is not yet fielded. Clearly now she is seeing backing Meira Kumar. And now if we really put a comparison between the two candidates contesting for Presidential post, UPA and their allies have a popular candidate in the name of Meira Kumar. So, it’s very clear now that Meira Kumar will definitely have an upper hand against Kovind and it will be really an interesting contest to watch out for.
In another development, left leaders, who are in touch of Arvind Kejriwal, AAP chief said that he is too willing to support the opposition candidate.
As known 17th July is the date for Presidential Polls.
